RI Division of Statewide Planning - Committee Participation
If you are interested in becoming more involved in Rhode Island's planning processes, we would like to hear from you! It takes as little as two to three (2-3) hours a month to serve on one of the three principal advisory committees to the State Planning Council. Please review the Committee descriptions below and then, if you’d like to be considered as vacancies occur, submit a letter of interest and a resume or background narrative. We are accepting interest all year, although, unless there is a vacancy, revolving, three-year appointments take place in the fall.
1. Technical Committee - This committee reviews State Guide Plan elements, the annual work program (UPWP), and other major plans and reports, as well as providing input on technical subjects as requested by the State Planning Council. The Technical Committee meets at 9 am on the first Friday of each month (except July and January).
2. Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) - This committee reviews transportation planning topics and encourages public involvement in the process. The TAC reviews and provides input on transportation planning documents, notably the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The Transportation Advisory Committee meets at 5:30 pm on the fourth Thursday of each month (except for December).
3. Rhode Island Geographic Information System (RIGIS) Executive Committee – This committee provides policy guidance, oversight, and coordination of the collective efforts of organizations in Rhode Island using GIS technology. It seeks to coordinate data development, adopt technical standards, set distribution policy for GIS products, promote the use of GIS, and provide information and assistance to users. The Committee does not have authority over RIGIS participants but reaches decisions by consensus. Meetings are held on a quarterly basis, at 2 pm on the third Thursday of March, June, September, and December.
